From the President

December 2011

It’s almost the end of the calendar year. In just a couple of months, we’ll be seeing many of you at Cool Tools VIII. Where did the year go? I was asking myself a version of that same question a few days ago when I turned sixty (It doesn’t look at as crazy to me spelled out). Where did the years go?

This is the point when many get nostalgic about “the good old days,” so let’s take a look at the good old days. When I grew up, phones were plugged into the wall and had rotary dials. Television sets - once they became available in the consumer market - had small black-and-white screens embedded in huge wood cabinets. We played records on turn tables, and some even had automatic record-stacking/changing features. No cell phones, smart phones, videos, video games, audio files, portable music players, hand-held calculators, computers, tablets, texting, IM, Internet, online communities, online shopping, GPS, and the list goes on.

I, for one, am happy to have immigrated to the 21st Century. Cell phones, smart phones, videos, video games, audio files, portable music players, hand-held calculators, computers, tablets, texting, IM, Internet, online communities, online shopping, GPS, and the list goes on. I wonder who first said, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” It sure wasn’t an educator. We’re just wired to believe that everyone can learn - even this old dog. Sixty... yes... 60... and I’m looking forward to seeing many of you at Cool Tools VIII. We’ve got lots of tasty bones for you!
